My name is Joy Matthews. I am a wife, mother of two, and grandmother of five. I have been a dog obedience trainer for over thirty years. Initially I trained dogs using what we trainers call "negative training." Twelve years ago I changed to positive training, which has been far more successful. Besides training my own dogs, I have a business of training and grooming dogs in Chelan, WA and the surrounding communities.

The idea for this ministry began to germinate as I was training dogs. The more I worked with the dogs, the more spiritual parallels and lessons came to my mind. My very first opportunity was 10 years ago with Zion at a Vacation Bible School. As time went by, we received invitations to visit nursing homes, school assemblies, churches, retreats, Christian television, and at a Ronald McDonald's house for seriously ill children. At each program, the dogs perform different obedience commands while I share scripture lessons, Bible stories, and experiences from my own walk with God. The ministry has touched the lives of many as others learn from watching the dog willingly obey. My book, "Zion, Champion for God" about my life and ministry will be enjoyed by many who might not be able to see the dogs in person.
